While Hoenn has great dragons (Altaria, Flygon, Salamence), Trapinch is possibly the best for a playthrough. Swablu -> Altaria is harder to play with and Salamence comes along after 8 badges (vs 3 for Swablu, 4 for Trapinch). Both of the game's fossils, Armaldo and Cradily, have great designs and are fun to play with.
